SSL (sound source localization)

Definition:

Sound Source Localization, through the microphone array or acoustic sensor, analysis of the audio signal time difference, intensity difference and other characteristics, to determine the location of the sound source (such as direction, distance).

Core methods:

TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival): The time difference between multiple microphones receiving the same sound is used to calculate the sound source orientation (such as left, right, front, and back).

Beamforming (Beamforming): Enhance the sound in a specific direction through algorithms, suppress noise in other directions, and realize "directional pickup".

Application Scenarios:

Intelligent conference equipment: identify the position of the speaker through sound source positioning, and automatically adjust the focal length of the camera or the direction of audio collection.

Smart home: in a multi-room environment, accurately locate the user's location and respond to instructions such as "turn on the light in the living room" and "adjust the temperature in the bedroom.

Security monitoring: through the sound of gunfire, glass broken sound positioning, rapid identification of abnormal events occurred in the area.

Technical value:

Giving devices the ability to "listen to sound" is the core technology for building multi-modal interactions (such as voice vision) and improving the environmental perception of smart devices.
